Kirva Hospice is a non-profit organization that was formed through a joint venture between two Richmond community anchors: Jewish Family Services of Richmond and Beth Sholom Senior Living of Richmond.
Jewish Family Services of Richmond (JFS) was founded in 1849. Their mission is to transform the lives of individuals and families and strengthen the Richmond community by providing the best options in care, counseling and adoption. JFS has provided exceptional guidance and support to individuals and families of all ages, faiths, and income levels for 175 years.
Beth Sholom Senior Living of Richmond opened in 1945 guided by faith values and traditions that are centered on compassion and excellence in nursing care. After years of serving Richmond as a facility dedicated to these values, Beth Sholom moved to a larger campus in the West End of Richmond that consists of two Assisted Living Facilities and a Skilled Nursing Facility, complete with a Rehabilitation Center & Memory Care Unit.
A mutual dedication to Jewish values and traditions became a catalyst in the partnership that formed Kirva Hospice. As such, our philosophy of care is deeply rooted in those same Jewish traditions and values that represent family, caring for the sick and elderly, and extending concern and respect to the communities we serve.
The name of our organization evolved from the Hebrew word קִרְבָה (keer-vah), meaning closeness, caring, and companionship. In that respect, caring for hospice patients in Richmond, VA is not only our passion, but also inherent in our name.
